Developers experience CSS as something they fight with. The brief was to provide a fun, engaging, playful framing and access point into modern CSS tooling, to wrap up to the developments of the year.

A 3D claymation world built around a folder of cool AI generated illustrations. We created a story to bring all the pieces together, using CSS as conjuring not combat. A tight deadline meant stripping the world back to almost nothing and total focus on bringing “Codey” our character to life.

The minimal set design was not a compromise but a deliberate choice that enabled everything else. Time saved on building out the environment was invested into motion, performance and detail, right down to the fingerprints on every 3D claymation model, that gave the story its texture and life. The content remained practical and direct, and the claymation world added warmth and narrative weight. The introduction of 3D modelling established a new visual identity for Chrome Developers, creating a stronger and more memorable impression on the developer community than anything the channel had produced before.
